International webinar of social innovations from universities

What are social innovations? How can they be promoted? And how can the topic find its way into teaching? The team from the CHE project WISIH and scientists from James Madison University (USA) will present the answers to these questions in a webinar on September 25th.

The CHE team will present results from the project “Pathways and indicators for social innovation from universities”. This includes the results of a quantitative survey among professors, which asked whether they are currently working or have worked on social innovations, what supports and obstacles they encountered in the work process and how they would describe their personality traits. The first results of a qualitative survey on processes of social innovation are also presented.

After presenting the main results, the team will offer three workshops: personality traits of social innovators, specifics of certain subjects and university management issues related to social innovations.

The James Madison University project deals with the integration of social innovations in teaching. The workshop introduces participants to tools with which complex social innovation problems can be addressed in a variety of ways in order to promote student learning. The focus is on how design thinking can be used to facilitate structured brainstorming and prototyping as an answer to a highly complex problem. Introductions to Value Proposition Design and the Business Model Canvas and their applicability to support social innovation projects in the classroom are also on the program. During the workshop, participants will understand the purpose of the above concepts in innovation lessons, learn about ways to apply them in the classroom, and discuss possibilities and challenges of applying them to social innovation efforts.

The webinar will take place on September 25, 2020 between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Registration is possible at https://www.eairweb.org/event-details/social-innovation-online-summit

Tickets are available at a price of 15 euros. The webinar takes place as part of the “Online summit” series of EAIR – The European Higher Education Society via Zoom. The webinar language is English.

The WISIH project has been funded by the BMBF since 2019 under the funding number FKZ 16IFI112.
