Der ZEIT Studienführer 2022/23

Students assess their study conditions in the latest CHE University Ranking, published today in the ZEIT Study Guide 2022/23 and in the digital university guidance services provided by ZEIT ONLINE. This year, subjects from the fields of engineering sciences and linguistics & cultural studies, as well as psychology were investigated. For the first time, students were also asked about the use of online teaching.

The students surveyed provide information on where students can expect to receive good teaching and supervision or gain exceptional practical experience, and where the library facilities and IT infrastructure are particularly outstanding.

“Now that the coronavirus pandemic is over, the real challenge is to introduce digital elements to usefully supplement classroom teaching. The CHE Ranking reveals the pioneers that have already succeeded in doing so in the latest subjects,” stated Frank Ziegele, Executive Director of the CHE Centre for Higher Education, explaining one of the many criteria of the ranking.

According to the student responses, there are many good examples of the use of online teaching in the subject of psychology as well as in engineering sciences – particularly in the subjects of mechanical engineering and electrical & information engineering – both at universities and at universities of applied sciences.

In addition to the student responses, CHE also collects facts on teaching and research. The results show, for example, that many higher education institutions offer their students a wide range of services to ensure a smooth transition to starting university.

The survey of around 120,000 students and the examination of more than 300 universities, universities of applied sciences, cooperative state universities and colleges of cooperative education make the CHE Ranking the most extensive and detailed comparison of higher education institutions in the German-speaking world.

The ZEIT Study Guide contains excerpts from the ranking, and provides answers to questions on entering higher education, finding the right place to study, and funding options. Martin Spiewak, Editor-in-Chief of the ZEIT Study Guide: “Abitur holders are increasingly uncertain about their choice of degree programme. By providing the ranking and a wealth of background information, tips and checklists, our study guide aims to help prospective students make an informed choice.”

The full CHE University Ranking is now also available digitally at ranking.zeit.de. By applying numerous interactive search options, users can adapt the ranking to their individual study needs to find the right university for them.
