Over the next few months, students once again have the opportunity to assess their study conditions as part of the student survey for the CHE University Ranking. For the CHE Ranking 2025/26, the results will be updated in the engineering subjects as well as German studies, Romance studies, psychology and educational science. In addition, the universities also have the option of including other degree programmes from the language and cultural sciences, such as English studies or theology, in the study.

Students on undergraduate degree programmes at universities and, in engineering subjects, students at universities of applied sciences and universities of cooperative education are surveyed. Students are included from the third semester up to the standard period of study plus two semesters. In architecture, master’s degree students are also included from the first semester onwards.

Students receive an invitation to take part in the survey directly from their university. Students can evaluate important aspects of their studies: e.g. the organisation of their studies, the support they receive from lecturers or the support they receive during their studies. In many subjects, there are also subject-specific questions, for example on laboratory practicals, excursions or design work in the architecture degree programme. The questionnaire also includes specific questions on the use of digital teaching elements and artificial intelligence in the degree programme.

‘A high level of participation in the student survey is crucial for a meaningful statistical analysis. If the number of responses is too low, the results for individual universities cannot be shown in the CHE University Ranking and new prospective students will lack important information when choosing a university,’ says Marc Hüsch, responsible for the student survey in the CHE University Ranking.

The survey will run from mid-October 2024 until 2 February 2025. The new data will be included in the CHE University Ranking, in May 2025.
